In Today’s world, a lot of laptops are available for buy. This creates confusion among buyers in selecting a suitable laptop according to their needs. So I am writing this article to help you to which thing you should consider before buying a laptop.
Processor
Processors play an important role in the performance of laptops. The processor of a laptop is made by three companies i.e. Intel, AMD, and Apple. Generally, the speed of the processor is measured in GHz. In processors, two terms are important to understand before selecting a processor i.e. Core and Threads.
A core is a physical Hardware component, but a Thread is a virtual component that is used to manage the tasks. Core increases the amount of work completed at a time but Threads minimize the deployment cost and increase GUI responses.
Nowadays in laptops, two types of cores are included i.e. efficiency core and performance core. The efficiency core consumes low power which is useful when doing normal work and doesn’t require high power. Performance core consumes high power and provides high performance.
Ram
Ram plays an important role in multitasking performance and handling the heavy workload on a laptop. The performance of RAM depends on factors like its capacity(GB), its MHz, and its generation(DDR).
Ram comes in capacities like 2GB, 4 GB, 8 GB, and 16 GB. If you are doing a normal task like making a presentation and watching videos, then you can go with 8GB RAM which is more than enough to do your task. And if you are doing heavy tasks like video editing, gaming, and animation, then you should pick 16GB RAM or higher.
Ram also comes in different MHz. A high MHz ram has a high speed compared to a less MHz ram. This also has generations like DDR3, DDR4, and DDR5. The latest generation provides better performance compared to the previous generation.
GPU
GPU is responsible for display it is a processor that processes only graphic-related work. Before selecting GPU for laptops you should consider VRAM and TDP.
A laptop with a high TDP GPU provides more performance and consumes more power. Less VRAM(video memory) is enough for normal graphic work. More Vram is required in heavy graphic work.
Some laptop comes with an integrated GPU which is enough for normal tasks. But for graphic-intensive work like animation, heavy video editing, and gaming then you should buy a laptop with a dedicated GPU.
Display
Many factors should be considered in the Display section of the laptop like display size, display panel, and display resolution.
The laptop comes in different display sizes from 13 to 16 inches. The 13-inch display size laptop is small in size and easy to carry. The 16-inch laptop is a big size and becomes difficult to carry.
Different Laptop comes with Different display panels like VA, TN, IPS, and OLED. VA and TN panels are good for gaming with a high refresh rate and less response time in budget segment gaming laptops but their color production is not good.
IPS and OLED panels are expensive compared to VA and TN panels but their color production is good and also better viewing angles.
Laptops come in different display resolutions like HD, FHD, 2k, and 4k. High-resolution displays provide a better viewing experience compared to low-resolution displays. You should not go below FHD because that is the minimum you should buy.

Ports
In laptops, there are many ports available that can be used according to needs like type c, HDMI, VGA, display port, SD card reader, USB ports, etc.
HDMI ports are used to connect the external display to a laptop. SD card reader helps the laptop read and write data on the SD card. Through USB ports you can connect various equipment like a Keyboard, mouse, and external storage devices.
Storage
The laptop comes with different sizes of storage space. Storage is required to save files.
The laptop comes with 2 types of storage i.e. HDD and SSD. The hard disk (HDD) has a high amount of space and is available at a cheap price. A solid State Drive provides fast read and write speed but it is very expensive compared to a hard disk.
If you want more space on a budget then you should go with HDD. But if you want fast speed and ok with less storage space then you can go with SSD.
Operating system
The laptop comes mainly with 3 Operating systems i.e. Chrome OS, Windows, and macOS.
Chrome OS is found in entry-level laptops. It is developed to run smoothly on low-spec laptops. This OS is suitable for students who take online classes, surf the Web and check email, navigate social networks, and chat online.
Windows OS is flexible and used more than Chrome OS and macOS. If you want to buy a laptop for gaming then you should go with Windows OS. Most of the games are only available for Windows OS.
MacOS comes only in Apple computers which start at very high prices. MacOS is optimized for professional work compared to Windows OS.
